L A ALUMINUM EXPERIENCES A RISING NEED FOR CASTINGS

L A Aluminum experienced a 28 percent increase in sales during fiscal year 2005.
The majority of this growth is due to the success of customers who doubled or tripled their order volume to meet consumer demands.
"We have a strong, solid customer base here at L A Aluminum, and we are thrilled the rising economy has enabled everyone to grow," said Chris Nicol, plant manager.
In order to meet these rising needs, L A Aluminum managers have been researching new equipment and making preparations to expand. Development plans include purchasing a new sand core machine and adding another CNC machine to the machine shop. Improvements will also be made in the foundry with equipment upgrades and more safety precautions. A major priority is to purchase and implement an ERP computer system to update and organize office management and job scheduling. This system will enable L A Aluminum to better serve customers and will accommodate future sales growth.
Employee development programs are also being designed to unify the workforce. New training programs and aids are being formed for quality assurance, along with incentives to motivate employees. Ideas are encouraged through quarterly surveys, and a new suggestion board. Recently, CNC machinist, Bob Quinn, was given a cash bonus for developing a machining technique that will save L A Aluminum thousands a year.
"We feel we will better satisfy our customers through our expansion and employee development plans. We also want our employees to be happy and confident in their positions. We’re grateful for their hard work, and realize we can’t accommodate this tremendous growth without them," said Nicol.
L A Aluminum’s web site has proven to be a successful marketing tool. Most new sales leads come through the website. Potential customers from all over the world contact L A Aluminum on a weekly basis asking for price quotes. The website averages 150,000 hits a month, which indicates there is still a strong market for aluminum castings.
"We’re proud our small company has seen such a huge growth over the last few years. In fiscal year 2004, we experienced a 16% growth, which advanced to 28% over FY 2005. Customer forecasts indicate we will continue to grow throughout FY 2006," said Nicol.
