L A Aluminum Casting Company in Hayden, Idaho received the Certificate of Appreciation from The National Economic Commission of the American Legion. This award is presented to companies for Outstanding Achievement in the Employment of Veterans.

The aluminum foundry and machine shop in Idaho has the highest percentage of veterans as employees compared to companies of the same size. At one point this year, over 43% of their employees had served, or were serving in the military.

L A Aluminum supports our troops and veterans in three ways. They work directly with the Veteran's representatives at the Department of Labor. If there is a job opening, the DOL is called first. The Veteran's representative at the DOL also called LAA three times this year with challenging cases involving veterans. All three were interviewed and offered employment.

L A Aluminum also supports Stand-Down. Stand-Down is the local community event which offers a hot meal, housing, clothing, and food to veterans who are struggling in the 5 northern counties of Idaho. L A Aluminum has donated time and money to this event for the last 3 years.

The third way L A Aluminum supports our troops and Veterans is by engineering a new part for collapsible fuel and water storage tanks that combined two parts into one casting. This integrated manway actually eliminated the major leak point on these tanks. Besides being an assembly and functionality improvement, the part also costs about 50% of what the military had been paying for the two pieces. The military gets a better casting that is stronger and less expensive! This is the third way we are working for our troops!

L A Aluminum has always made castings for the military. Three of the largest contracts the company is currently manufacturing are for military parts. The company specializes in making complex castings from .05 ounces to 120 lbs. They make castings for a variety of industries, including wind power turbines, the nuclear industry, and dental equipment manufacturers.

L A Aluminum has been in business since 1947. They have always been a Single-Source permanent mold aluminum foundry and machine shop making castings for the OEM market primarily. They are a full-service foundry and CNC machine shop with 4th & 5th- axis machining capabilities. They make their own tools and offer powder coating, anodizing, sand blasting, and assembly.

The company was started in California, hence the name. The owners decided to move the company to North Idaho in 1974. Robert Oswald Jr, the son of the founders, still runs the company today.

L A Aluminum has seen record-breaking growth for the last three years. Michelle Richter, the company's Sales and Marketing Manager, is planning 25% growth every year until 2013. She said, "We are maximizing what the company does well. L A Aluminum specializes in permanent mold and semi-permanent mold aluminum castings. Our castings are gorgeous! We are industry leaders in casting-in stainless steel threaded inserts and steel coils. This eliminates steps in the manufacturing process down stream saving time and money for our customers."
